Our first patient treated with a custom-made titanium sternum was successfully discharged home. The patient had a huge sternal sarcoma completely resected and the sternum and anterior costal edges were replaced with a custom-made implant. The prosthesis was designed by Salamanca University Hospital thoracic surgeons in cooperaton with Anatomics, a Melbourne-based company. The implant was derived from the patient’s CT scan and made in titanium using a 3D printer.
Members of the Thoracic Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery cooperated in this case. More information on demand.
